The exhibition “Ainu Stories: Contemporary Lives by the Saru River” will be held at Japan House London from Thursday, November 16 to Sunday, April 21, 2024.

Japan House London was created on Kensington Street, a main street in London, as a European hub for the growing interest in Japanese culture. As a cultural and commercial complex with galleries, a theater, select stores, restaurants, and a library, it offers activities that allow visitors to feel Japanese culture through their bodies and arouse their desire to consume it. The space was designed by interior designer Masamichi Katayama.

The exhibition is said to focus on the modern-day bearers of Ainu culture in Nibutani, Nibutani, Hiratori-cho, Saru-gun, Hokkaido, and will include themes such as language, environment, crafts, tourism, song, dance, and food. In addition to introducing today’s efforts to connect Ainu culture to the future, the exhibition is also said to cover the history of Hiratori Town and the historical exchange between the U.K. and Hiratori Town, so please visit the exhibition if you have a chance.
